Lego Oma

Rita Ebel, aka the Lego Oma, is a German grandma and wheelchair user. Rita is a few decades old - the saying “age is just a number” couldn’t be more accurate in this case - has been married three times - but who is counting? Since her car accident, which broke her lumbar spine and caused paralysis from her waist down, she constantly had to find creative ways to continue doing the things she loves. When she noticed most of the stores in her hometown Hanau were inaccessible to her, she decided to make a statement by building wheelchair ramps from Lego, each a unique piece of art.

Figment Figment

Figment

In Figment we follow artist Lieke Anna (35). Born and raised in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, the Netherlands, she has always had a very tight relationship with her mother, Jeanine. On June 19, 2020, disaster struck when Jeanine suffers a severe cerebral hemorrhage while Lieke was sitting next to her on the couch. What follows were anxious and uncertain weeks of operations and complications. For a long time it stays unclear whether and how Jeanine would wake up. Then slowly and painfully it becomes clear that the confident and independent woman she used to be has turned into a needy and dependent woman. Figment is an intimate documentary about the invinsible impact of a mom's brain damage on her daughter, her son and her own identity. A film about finding hope, love and closeness in living loss.
